To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny-with a little help from her new vampyre friends.
Marked is the first in a new young adult series (the second book–Betrayed–came out in October 2007). It shows a similar world to ours except vampires exist. The book combines teen angst with the world building. I enjoyed the book even though it isn’t the most original plot. I liked Zoey, but I thought she settled into her new life too easily. A lot of action takes place in the book over the course of only about a week. I would have liked it better if the action had been spread out over a longer period of time. It felt rushed. Even with these reservations I would recommend this book and I plan to read Betrayed (House of Night, Book 2).

umm there is this really cool series that i read and the books are Ugly’s, Pretty’s, Special’s, and Extras. they are science fiction books, and i read them and i am 13.
My friend said those books were good too but i started reading it but didnt really like it.But if you like vampire books you should read the Vampire Academy series the fourth book came out a few days ago.
blue bloods! its sooo good. i havent been able to put it down. there are 3 so far blue bloods, masquerade, and relavations and the 4th one is to come out in october 09. read them they are amazing!
Absolutely! Blue Bloods was amazing. I like this series by P.C and Kristen Cast though. It definately puts an interesting twist on our perspective of vamps.
I’d say read Dead Until Dark.
when I was 14 i was hooked on the “a series of unfortunate events” series, there are 13 all together though, Darren Shan is good too (: Lord Loss is my favourite out of the demonia series

I’m just starting to get into more teen fiction/romance based books. So far I have only read the Twilight Series, and Kissed by an Angel.
Any other series to recommend that is similar to the ones I have already read?
The Night World Series by L.J. Smith is good. There are three out right now and the fourth will be out in April 2010. A good series if you like Twilight and the House of Night novels. I’ve also started on another series L.J. Smith is doing called Dark Visions. I am half way through it and I am liking it.
I guess I meant the whole story about “teens in school” plot. I liked the book–the vampires and world building, etc.–but most of these books have a loner teen coming up against more popular kids at their school and then triumphing against the “mean” kids. I read the next in this series–Betrayed–and thought it was good. Chosen comes out in March.
How did you like the Stephanie Meyers books? I liked them better than Marked.
Some others I’ve enjoyed: Tithe by Holly Black, Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr, Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz, Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith, Glass Houses by Rachel Caine. Have you read any of these?
i absolutely loved this book. Marked was really good, and Betrayed is even better (and sadder and more suprising and…) I plan on reading Chosen(the third book) soon, too. Although it doesn’t come out until next month.
btw… the books you mentioned are all really good. Except Tithe -horrible, and Glass Houses -haven’t read it yet, but i’ll try it out
And… I own the Twilight series. I read them over and over and over again. They never get old. New Moon makes me cry. Oh, yah…. the 4th book in the series is called Breaking Dawn. It comes out on August 2nd… I already preordered it on AMAZON!!! yay!

What exactly is the Marked series about? I was just wondering if it was appropriate for one of my sisters.
I just got the sixth book Tempted from the House of Night Series. It is good so far, I like the whole series but I do not really think that the series is for people under 14. With this vampire story the whole idea is that anyone can be a vampire, it is a matter of it being in your genes. When you are a teen, either you turn into one or you do not but not all that start to turn into one finish turning into one, they die instead. The main character finds out that she is powerful and has to fight off the bad guys all the while having serious man troubles, she can’t make up her mind.
I’m glad you enjoyed Marked and Betrayed. I’m looking forward to Chosen, too. Of course, the Twilight series is great–just saw yesterday the Aug 2 date for Breaking Dawn. One other vampire book I forgot to mention–Sunshine by Robin McKinley. It is excellent. (And I did like Tithe–although I agree it is pretty dark!)
I loved the twilight series! They were fantasic and i agree they never get old. I’ll try to read the marked series too. You should also read “the ultimate gift” by jim stovall. Fantasic book. It will change your life.

I really enjoyed reading the Hous of Night series, I’m dying for the fourth to come out in the fall. I consider them better than Twilight, more original and less cliche (I’m not big on the ‘R&J’ vampire idea); they are more easy to relate with. Holly Black & Rachel Caine’s novels are well to do, as well. If you liked them, give Libba Bray’s books a try (though they are void of vampires).
I haven’t found or read Chosen yet so am looking forward to that still, but am sure I will then be ready for the next in the series! I keep meaning to read the Libba Bray books. I will make it point to search for her books and read them!
i definitely think the twilight series is better than the house of night series.. they are both very good though. i own the twilight series and i read them over and over again and they really don’t get old
I just finished Chosen yesterday. It’s a great read, but like with all books, I have a few minor complaints. I won’t share those here for those of you who have not gotten a chance to read it yet. But yes, the series is great and I look forward to Untamed in the fall. Like all of you, I prefer the Twilight series. But it does not take away from how much I like this series.

I came on this site to check out what the marked series was about and am now looking forward to reading them; Whilst I was doing this I came across all the comments about the twilight series and have got to say I for one am in love with them books and could say that there pretty much the best books I’ve ever read.
I’m waiting for breaking dawn the forth book of the series to come out and am keeping myself occupied by reading other books.
One book I really enjoyed was Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, whoever loved the twilight series should check that book out =]

The Twilight series are my favorite books ever and Eclipse is my favorite of the three. Although I just read a book that might be betetr than twilight, it si really really really good if you like the romancey books but this one has a bit more action in it. Its called city of bones and its amazing its got all of the magical stuff like vampires and stuff although the lead people are a whole new type of weird mythical thing and its soo good.
The sequel just came out today, city of ashes, and i ordered that along with marked and i cant wait to read both. Trust me this series is really really good.
Why are you commenting if you haven’t read them yet? This may be a book about vampires but i do not understand why you’d write something about a book that is different from the website. I’m sorry but i just don’t get it.

Marked.. Was a fantastic book!! I couldn’t put it down. Alot like the Twilight series. I think it’s just the whole.. Mythical, vampire theme that lures me in. Where-as most teenage girls are draged into it for it’s fantasy like happy ending with relationships, and the ever lasting dramatic boyfriend/girlfriend delemas.. Which always end up getting worked out. All in all.. It’s what makes a good book great. I am at the moment in the process of writing my own book with a friend. Hopefully it’ll work out.. We have some awesome ideas. Umm.. Some other good books i’ve read are-
The Artemis Fowl series, The Magician Series and Black Tattoo.

Have you read any other Patricia Briggs’ books (besides the Mercedes Thompson series)? Her other books are more straight fantasy, but I have really enjoyed them. I just finished Steal the Dragon and When Demons Walk and thought both were very good.
I also liked Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr.
the sweep series by cate teirnan is a fantastic series about a girl morgan who just found out that she is a veery powerful witch. it centers around her struggles with good and evil, catholicism and wicca, and her friends in school and her new powers.
I liked Meyer’s books but I feel even though they were phenomenal, even though I’m not a vampyre I felt I could relate to the House of Night series. This sounds like stuff a teenager would think, I mean no offense Bella, but not everyone would speak like they’re from the 1800s and have fangs and be all sexy (like Edward) so there I did I and now I’m happy
This book was amazing! I finished not only Marked, but Betrayed and Chosen in about a week and a half. The action in the books is planned out well, but I wish the plot hadn’t felt so rushed. It seemed like Marked just went by too fast, and the House of Night school didn’t seem cliquey enough. I also think that Zoey made too many friends too quickly. Everyone knows that new high schools can be challenging to find friends at. You’d think that it would especially be hard for Zoey since her mark is different than everyone else’s. But other than that, Marked and the rest of the House of Night series are phenomenal books!
I just finished Chosen a few days ago and agree all three books are good. I think I liked Chosen the best of the three.
I also agree with you, Kelly–the plot feels a little rushed–so much happens in just a few days in each book. And it is unrealistic that she would make friends so quickly! Still the books are enjoyable.

another series i would reconmend (it isnt supernatural but dont let that put you off!) is the noughts and crosses series by Malories Blackman! There have only ever been 3 books that i’ve ever ended up crying…eclipse, noughts and crosses (book 1) and checkmate (noughts and crosses book 3)….

My friend saw me reading Wicked Lovely and she recommended The Twilight Series. I didn’t read it, and then suddenly, every girl in my school was talking about Edward and the books! I still haven’t gotten my hands on it .. but I can’t wait!!

Hey there my name is Ana. i suggest the morganville vampires for you to read i´m 16 and i loved twilight and the other books so if it has vampires romance adventure and a strong female character i read it. the serie house of night is great but for who as read twilight new moon and eclipse it´s a bit light, the serie called the morganville vampires that it is cool too.
I love the twilight series and have read some of the other books people have mentioned. I found wicked to be kind of…disturbing, I guess. The libba Bray books are okay, though I found Twilight while in the middle of the third one and never went back to it…I just finished Marked, and can’t stop thinking about it! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one. I NEED it! Although it was kind of a predictable plot, it was still so awesome!

Hey! My name is Christina. I never really started reading until i finally finished with the harry potter series. Well i know that sounds confusing but I kind of read them slowly but surly. I never thought I was going to ever find a book as good. I actually cried. I read the twilight in one day. Yeah, hard to believe. I am on breaking dawn right now. I have almost finished it. I read marked and loved it! I am waiting for untamed. I came on some fansites to see if anybody suggested anything. I got a couple more book names and am sure to be reading them. Oh yeah, almost forgot. I read a book, it was okay I guess but I finished it. It is a series, sort of. It is called the warrior heir. Next is wizard heir, then drangon heir. I only read warrior heir because I was so upsessed with the twilight series. If there was any way I could be apart of the movie in anyway I would (even with my horrible fear of being on stage). I hope they come out with a movie for marked! Haha =]] Well I’m still looking for some more books to upsessed about!

I got Marked from one of my Anime friends and the only reason why i read it was bcuz it said Zoey which is very close to my name, but I LOVED IT. I have Betrayed next to me right now and i’m just starting it but i had to pry myself away so that i could get some peer responses. i also LOVed the Twilight series (Team Edward). I’m soo glad that i started reading both and i plan on reading Blue Bloods. This is a good site to get some good books from!

I really liked the marked series though I hated how they always cussed and that there were some odd parts in chosen (like Loren Blake) god I hated him throughout the whole book I was jumping with glee when he died cuz he was getting in the way of Erik and Zoey but when you get past all those weird parts the books are pretty decent I liked the whole Stevie Rae Drama and how Neferate is evil the only problem I had is wat I said before the bad language because it’s young adult and that mostly means middle school kids (like myself) reading it at school it makes me want to hide the book (cuz teachers practically are reading over your shoulder!) it needs to be tuned down a bit cuz I am almost positive tht highschool kids don’t cuss tht much.
I cant wait for the Twilight movie (I might go to the first showing at 12:00pm) yeah thts how obsessed with it I am I just want to tell people if you haven’t read it already you should read Blue Bloods and Blue Is For Nightmares they are two different books and both decent reads !!!-

ok so i finished the house of night seires in a week. And now imm upset cuz hunted wont come out till march of next year they serieously left me hanging in untaimed but w/e. I read Twilight loved it but people ruined it for me i they made to big of deal of it of course i am a ( TEAM JACOB) player but its kind of played out now. I abosoultly loved the house of night series, the cussing part made me laugh cuz we seriously do say that
i do recommend tantalize it was extremely good and if you liked twlight and the whole werewolf thing try the maximum ride series it was really good…until the 4th book. But funny and different anyway

These books had me addicted from the start! I love them (especially Heath Luck, from what I’ve read– wink), and I’m trying to get my other friends to STOP TALKING about “Twilight” and get into “Marked”, because it’s much more interesting, and it’s a longer series than 3-4 books!! I lurve these, I can’t say it enough. I’ve been addicted to “Harry Potter”, but once these books came into my life, “Harry Potter” books and movies completely left my mind and Zoey, Neferet, Stevie Rae (which is what i want to change my name to), and Heath and Erik took over. Any sci-fi lover would LURRRRRRRRRRRRRVE this series!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twilight series are so fad now that I don’t wanna read it(no offense to twilight fans). My friends say that if you’d read the book then watch the movie, you’ll be disappointed because there are many scenes cut. By the way, i’ve read the 4 house of the night books just for a week. And read it over and over again!

i would recommend to people who dont have anything to read (if they are waiting for a book to come out (like untamed etc.)) and are looking for things to read inbetween, then read things like “The diary of a girl: Anne Frank” (or otherwise known as “The diary of Anne Frank), “the boy in the striped pyjamas” by John Boyne, “The book theif” by Markus Zusak and the series of books by Eva Ibbotson: “A company of swans”, “The secret countess”, “The morning gift” and “A song for summers”. I don’t think that the books by Eva Ibbotson are actually followed on from each other though, just books by the same author in the same style. I would also deeply reccomend “Looking for Alaska” by John Green. Also, the noughts&crosses “trilogy”–”Noughts and crosses”, “Knife edge” and “Checkmate”– (even though there is a fourth book out now: “Double cross”)
There’s “The host” by Stephenie Meyer
and “The hunger games” by Suzanne Collins
Also, if you like more adult-type books, i would recommend “Size 12 is not fat” and “Size 14 is not fat either” by Meg Cabot.

the internet says there will be 9 books to the house of night series the 5th of which called hunted is schedulled to be released march 10 09. The rights to the movie was also reportedly released november 22 08 although no names have been linked to the cast yet. So very exciting, the house of night series is by far the best book series ive read yet!
Hello. I love ALL the HON series books. I have another vampire series you might consider reading- #1 Vampire Academy #2 Frostbite #3 Shadow Kissed. All by Richelle Mead. I loved it! It was a roller coaster of emotion! The 4th and 5th books have not been published but the 4th is coming in July I believe.. (If I have the month wrong, sorry, I’m waiting for a lot of books to come out..)

OMG i loved the books so much i could not put it down once. i actually got grounded because i was so entranced that i blocked out all sounds including my parents trying to call me. i cannot believe wht has happened so far im waiting for hunted to come out i have read all the books in under three days now. SO MUCH BETTER THEN TWILIGHT!

I thinK I like the Twilight series better. I looked on the house of the night website and saw the pics of Zoey and her gang and it ruined it for me! I hope if they do make The House of the Night series into movies then they better case people who fit the part. The picture of Zoey was not what I pictured Zoey to look like. This chic was way to old!!! and not very pretty. neither was Erik Night. And yes, I agree w/ the person who said the Twilight series was to short!!!
Plz Plz Plz make the House of Night series a movie series!!!!!! People should campaign for it! Encourage your friends and fammliy to read Marked! Assure them that as soon as they get one chapter in, theyll be addicted to it!!! I would be the first one in the door at the theatre if the movie duz come out!!! Plus, I would positively go bizzerk if i could meet P.C. and Kirsten Cast!!!!!!!!! Luv yur books!!!!

They are absolutly amazing. they are like a romance, but also about inequality between races, except its reversed. They aren’t related to Vampires but seriously read them.

I love the House of Night Series! I have read them all so far.. i can’t wait until Hunted comes out. I have them all.. lol. I have also read all the twilight saga and they are good, too. I would have to say that The House of Night novels are much better, though. I’m 13 and all my friends are starting to read them now ‘cuz of me… i’m guessing they will be like the twilight books??? lol. Now they just need a movie about marked!
Ehh I’m like only 50 pages into it, but surly it will get better. I really want to get to Betrayed, it sounds very very very good!!!! I can’t wait!!!!

as for other books that are good… ive read these one books called the anita blake vampire hunter books and just have to say they are good!! the main character is really witty and makes the story really good! just have to warn you that it is VERY graphic and is somewhat gory so if you have a weak stomach… well… you myt wanna pass!!
there are other pc cast books that are pretty good. ive read her divine by choice book and enjoyed it!!

Hello have read twilight series and ordered marked. I think you might like to read the knife of never letting go it hasn’t got vampires but is a book about a boy on a world where they can read minds. I’ve read all the books in the marked series and think they totally kick butt! To me, they are a great read and I think they’re better than the Twilight series, no offense to Twilight fans because i like that series too. I can’t wait to read Hunted. The book is so addicting that once you read you’ll want to keep reading! and i do agree with everyone that it does rush and i do hope it turns into a movie! that would be so cool! and if they do i cant wait to see wat hot guys they have. hehehe but i do recommend that ppl read them. they are so AWESOME!!

By the way, it was sad when stark died i cryed. And his poor dog, but thankfuly Jack took care of her. I cryed when everyone died. And becuse of what Zoey is going through. I cant wait till the next book……

Because while I guess that the major plot point of Kalona and Neferet was solved what about the Stark(mega hot), Erik(annoying baby, and Heath(drunk idiot) issue??? We’re talking about the America ones, but I have no idea about UK. The books are already published out here and i do hope they make a new book after Hunted! if that is the ending they should make another one.

It is great. Im so glad that you guys like the vampire books too, my friends like them but not like me, im addicted to them. I have read all the Twilight saga, which i thought were fantastic. I have read the morganville Vampires, the first is called Glass Houses, which were great, i loved them. My friend told me about the House of Night and so i thought i would check them out. Also i have read the Kitty books which are more about one main werewolf and a community of vampires and other supernatural creatures. You should definitely read them

I truly love all of P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast books. I highly recommend all of their books. Especially these ones because they are really good. I got really in touch with Zoey, and there was a few times that i’ve cried because of parts of the books. P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast are really good at you getting involved with the characters so long you have a good imagination
I am a a bIG fan of all the twilight series..i have read all the 4 books like a dozen times now and i still cant get enough of them. I read The host as well n it was pretty good. I was wondering if anyone cud give me a few names of such categorical books but not necessarily of vampires and stuff.. I have started reading marked..it seems to be good but i also want to read some other stuff as well. I would love mystery n romance but apart from all this vampire stuff.. you really thought the twilight series was better? I agree in some ways. Cause in Marked it’s more….realistic then twilight.
And i know both are of course fiction but the authors should try to make it sound real and I think that Kristen Cast did that better. I still L.O.V.E twilight though.
I really liked the Twilight series. Being a little older than than a young adult, the way the book was written appeals to me more. I found myself a little annoyed at all of the “babble” that Zoey would do and could not fully relate. However, I enjoyed the Marked series a lot. I read “Hunted” in about two days and I am waiting for the next book to be released in October.
A few other good books or series (if they are not already posted): “The Blue Bloods”, “Masquerade” and “Revelations” are great by Melissa De La Cruz. The next book I have heard is rumored to be out in September 09.
The Uglies, Pretties and Specials by Scott Westerfield. The newest book is about another girl and that book is called “Extras”.
I have yet to find another series, but right now I am reading Nora Roberts books… which are a little more adult.

I really liked the Marked series….not nearly as much as twilight….but they were still really good. I love erik….he’s my favorite in the books, it’s why i hate the fact that zoey has heath and then loren….and i just hope she ends up with Erik and not heath(GOD i hate him).
I’ve also read the Vampire Diaries series and i loved them to….but twilight is still number 1 in my mind.
Though i kind of got annoyed with zoey a little bit….i still loved the Marked series…..and actually Twilight and Marked are the reasons i started to love reading…and i am totally obsessed with Edward Cullen and Erik knight….i would totally choose them over Heath and Jacob(i hate him as well)…..anyways just wanted to say that i loved the Marked series and to keep em coming!!

I love those books! I love Edward and all that (of Caurse!) But i’m hearing alot about this Erik Guy..? Is there somthing like edwards and bella’s love in Marked? That’s the reason I’m so in love with Twilight.
My younger sister who is thirteen received this book as a gift, and I flipped through it before letting her read it because of the Twilight series which I found contained far too many sexual references. I was appalled, completely and absolutely disgusted. Not only is the quality of writing insulting to the teenage age group, and completely demeaning but the amount of sex is completely inappropriate for a child to read, regardless of the age. A sixteen year old might very well engage in sexual activity, drink and take drugs, but to put it into a book, directed at children is ridiculous. The new stigma vampires have are that they are these blood thirsty, lustful creatures who are all amazingly younger than thirty. I say that children should be reading stories that influence positive behavior, and natural fantasies. There are no ‘vampYres’.
Hey Autumn… if you think the first one was bad for the sexual references… just wait until the third book “Chosen”. I was greatly disturbed at what situations Zoey had put herself into, especially with her age. I’m sure you’d feel the same and would definately not want your little sister to continue the series. If you even let her read the first one.
this whole entire series is amazing. i finished all five books in four days. the beginning of marked is a little slow, but once the plot gets going the series is addicting. im disappointed that i finished the books so fast. id love to read more of these, but i doubt there will be a sixth book. i found out about the house of night series after being in desperate need for more vampire novels because i was done with stephenie meyer’s books. the two series are different, but both highly recommended. amazing reads that left me ditching my friends on the weekends

I got the books from a friend and loved them!!! Ive read all five books and cant wait to read the rest!! When they come out at Kmart of BigW im goin 2 buy them. Its cheaper then Angus and Robertson. I think they are one of the best series ever but all the books ive read are good!!!!

Just finished reading Marked! It took everything I had just to finish the book. I mean please, Harry Potter meets Twilight! The Cast’s need to come up with some original ideas. This book was a rip off of the above mentioned, I could have wtitten it – just plan sad!

A very good series is the Night World book 1 2 and 3
i’m almost finished with marked (i know, i’m a little behind most of you). but i’ve read the twilight series over and over again and i LOVE them <3 i also like the host by stephenie meyer. while no vampires are in this book, it is by far my favorite book ever. you all should give it a try!

I advise you to read house of the Night. because they are also spectacular, but nothing to compare to the twilight. Good reading!

Start the ‘Marked’ series first. they are by far my favorite series of the 4 above (I haven’t heard or read Kissed by an Angel through. I’ll look it up later.)The Twiligtht series had me obsessed for a good 2 months and I’m not kidding. I read them over and over again, and it was awful. I couldn’t even forget the books for a day. WARNING!!!!! don’t ever read the books. EVER! (okay! goin’ on) The Vampire Diaries had a good concept, but were poorly written.
I’d now like to recommend some of my favorite books with a sort description. 1.The sookie stackhouse series.Sookie Stackhouse is a telepathic barmaid in Bon Temps,Lousiana.(Fanatasy chick literacy, southern phrases (I learned a LOT), 8 books and still an on going series)
2.The Host. written by the same authour of Twilight,but not as obsessive.Melanie is trapped in the mind of her own body as she is being controled by a well meaning spirit/alien named Wanderer. (it’s called an adult psychological thriller, but there is no inuenduo and nothing creepy happens like dreaming of eating your own foot.Kids can read it but they won’t exorb it as fully if they were at least 12. thats all!!!
Nik!! I find that highly offensive!!( from above). I read Dead Until Dark when I was 11. And i thought it was a great book. I don’t know how old you are but kids are smart enough to figure out what’s going on all around them!! ( you’ll probly never read this, but it feals good to rant.heehee). I have read most of these books, like a gazillion times, but my favorite is the House of Night series. I used to be a total Twilght fan, but I have read them WAY to much. They are starting to get boring. I am also starting to write several books which will be pretty cool in the end. And thanks for all the GREAT recommendations. (I don’t think I spelt that right.) WIcked Lovely is a good series and the new Twilight book, (I don’t know if this is just a rumor or not.) will be Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer.
