You should have seen this one coming … Who is your favorite Male lead character? And why?
………………………………
I’m late with Booking Through Thursday this week, but I’m finally back home and ready to blog! Favorite heroes…I realize I tend to focus on strong female characters rather than strong male characters. I had a hard time deciding on favorites. These are the characters who came to mind:
- Roarke from J.D. Robb’s In Death series is certainly a top choice for me as was his wife Eve last week in my “Favorite Heroine” post. Roarke shows his love for Eve in all his actions. He’s a strong alpha male, but willing to let Eve be a strong character and do dangerous police work.
- Rothgar (Bey Malloren) in Jo Beverley’s Malloren historical romance series about Georgian England. He’s strong, but vulnerable with a strong sense of duty and love for his family and country–an irresistible combination.
- Val Con yos’Phelium in Agent of Change and Carpe Diem (science fiction Liaden Universe series) by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. Val Con is the perfect companion for Miri Robertson, an ex-mercenary. Val Con has no problem understanding and using Miri’s often superior knowledge and resources as they struggle to outsmart assassins.
- Bastian Touissant in Black Ice–a dark, edgy romantic suspense about a cold-blooded assassin–by Anne Stuart. He isn’t sure whether Chloe Underwood is an innocent in his world or someone sent to kill him, but he can’t help saving her life.
- and last but not least I have to include a BBC adaptation of a 19th century book by Elizabeth Gaskell–North & South. John Thornton is a 19th century northern England mill owner played by actor Richard Armitage in North & South. Thornton is a self-made man who is ruthless when he has to be, but also fair and responsible to his workers. A wonderful miniseries.
I like heroes who are strong and self-confident enough to let the people they love find their full potential. Who are your favorite heroes and why do you choose them?
